Akkar’s latest shotgun the 812 Churchill
The latest shotgun from the Turkish Manufacturer, Akkar. The 812 was launched with zero fanfare sometime ago, and Akkar’s latest foray into the shotgun market comes at a time when the market is dominated by lever Action shotguns.  The 812 action was originally designed as a slim line 20g but since expanded it into the 12g marketplace .
When unpacking the first one into the store impressions are that the standard Akkar supply of a hard take down case is still a great addition to the gun . On removing the action, barrels and fore-end, its obvious that Akkar have approached this shotgun with an almost minimalist yet modern design brief .
It still retains the Turkish walnut with laser cut checkering, very a typical of this type of shotgun, yet the nitride and polished side panels on the action make it subtly stand out. With a mirror polish the side panels add a certain element of a higher end, modern gun. The action has some more modern angles and design cues, a little reminiscent of a Browning GP Sporter. The slimmer action handles well, very well for an ‘entry ‘ Turkish shotgun, whilst the fore-end is not exactly to my tastes, as part of the overall design, it works!
Once its given a quick rub down with a good gun oil, the 812 starts to really shine. The high gloss side panels help this stand out from the crowd of plain black / stainless receivers. Added bonus for continuing on from Akkar’s standard practise of casing guns, with chokes. More extra points for the awesome 5 year warranty too.
This shotgun is sure to be a new favourite for newer shooter looking for an affordable shotgun, be it for the farm, club or even just to look pretty !
